“We are implementing programs in which the university becomes an actor in local development through knowledge transfer and a generator of innovation mechanisms within the productive fabric,” said the Minister of Universities, Manuel Castells.

This ambitious project is part of the Chair of Sustainable Territories and Local Development of UNED, and is built around four main areas of action:

  • The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and their application in territorial development.

  • The promotion of entrepreneurship.

  • The enhancement of cultural and natural heritage available in each territory.

  • The recognition of the crucial role of women in rural development.

The program’s goal is to stimulate the economic and social development of rural areas such as the Bierzo region in León, “to fight depopulation and ensure current and future social and territorial cohesion […] through the use of existing technological infrastructures, research, innovation, and the transfer of university knowledge.”

“This new public-private collaboration project aims to contribute to generating economic activity and employment with a technological foundation and with the goal of attracting and retaining the talent that already exists in the territory.” It takes as a reference, in terms of investment projections, the European Data Strategy, “which considers investment in data and the strengthening of Europe’s capacities and infrastructures to host, process, and use such data interoperably as a catalyst for sustainable development.”

As a company specialized in digital transformation and new technologies, this project reflects our commitment to helping companies and institutions generate new models that enable and drive sustainable local development and growth. Thanks to semantic technologies, we can transform companies, institutions, and territories, and create ecosystems for both the present and the future—with people at the center.
